Researching Pressure Washer Options

Zoomed: Troy-Bilt 2700 PSI 2.3 GPM Gas Pressure WasherSpring is here and it’s time to get everything cleaned up from the slime and grime of winter.  So what is on my wish list for getting these jobs done?  I would love a power washer.  How much easier it would be to clean my back deck, siding and window screens.  So I have been researching pressure washers.  One feature to decide on up front is whether you want an electric or gas powered unit.  There is a big difference between the two.  The gas are much more powerful.  The smallest gas washer is more powerful than the largest electric washer.  So take into consideration how big of a surface you will need to clean and plan accordingly.  We have a large back deck and I would like to clean it fast so a gas powered is the one we will need.

Another consideration would be size.  Pressure washers are classified, small, medium and large and three specifications that determine their size is the psi = pounds per square inch, GPM = gallons per minute and CU = cleaning units.  At http://www.the-power-washer-advisor.com/ they clarify these somewhat confusing numbers as “Think of the pressure (PSI) as the agitation that is applied to the surface that you are cleaning and think of the flow (GPM) as the rinsing force that carries the dirt away.”  The higher the PSI the stronger the flow, if you just need to clean a deck and not damage it in any way you will want to have a lower PSI than if you want to strip paint off a surface.  The GPM will  determine how fast the job will be and the CU is is the result of multiplying the PSI by the GPM.

Unless you are a contractor most homeowners would do well with the small or medium size gas powered pressure washer.  Because I have such a large back deck I think a medium size which is clasified as 2800 to 3000 PSI and 2.5 to 2.8 GPM with a CU of 7500 to 8400 or the high end of the small washers  at a 2700 PSI with a GPM of 2.3 and CU of 6210 will do.

One model that I am looking at from Lowes is the:

Generac 2700 PSI 2.3 GPM Gas Pressure Washer Zoomed: Generac 2700 PSI 2.3 GPM Gas Pressure Washer

Priced at $299 with a high user rating of 4.5 out of 5.

Seems like the perfect one to meet our needs.  For further research visit http://www.the-power-washer-advisor.com/ or http://www.pressurewashersdirect.com/
